The Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project will change the energy map of Europe, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
The president made the remarks at the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council in Baku Feb. 29.
President Aliyev said the [SGC] is a large infrastructure project. "Cooperation among the project’s participants will continue to develop in the future. This is a project of sincere cooperation and open partnership,” he added.
The Azerbaijan-EU relations have a good history and potential, and half of Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover falls on the EU countries, according to the head of state.
Over the past years, Azerbaijan has proved to be a reliable partner, said the president. "Such events will continue in the future. I’m confident that all issues will be solved successfully,” he stressed.
President Aliyev expressed gratitude to the countries, particularly the United States for supporting the project, noting that the strategic role of Azerbaijan will be highlighted in a joint statement to be signed.
The head of state said Azerbaijan's proven gas reserves exceed 2.5 trillion cubic meters which will be able to change Europe’s energy map in the future.
