Azerbaijan considers the platform as an opportunity to convey its position and vision to the world

The World Economic Forum is one of the largest platforms that unites politicians, business people, and public organizations to hold discussions on global economic processes, agenda and socio-political processes. The World Economic Forum is not only a great platform for presenting the realities of Azerbaijan to the world community but also provides comprehensive information about global economic trends. President Ilham Aliyev, who has been participating in the annual meeting of the Davos World Economic Forum since 2007, started a working visit to the Swiss Confederation to attend the Forum. During his visit to Davos, the Azerbaijani President met with President and Chairman of VTB Bank Management Board Andrey Kostin, founder and Co-Executive Chairman of Carlyle Group David Rubenstein, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at CISCO Kelly Kramer on January 20, and met with Chief Executive Officer at Carlsberg Group Cees't Hart, Chief Executive Officer of Signify Eric Rondolat, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu, President of the World Economic Forum Borge Brende, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenkovic, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti, President of Russian LUKOIL company Vahid Alakbarov, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan, Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mohammad Barkindo on January 21.
President Ilham Aliyev attended a session on "New Vision for Eurasia - Partnerships for Sustainable Growth” held in Davos as part of the World Economic Forum. The issues of cooperation between the Eurasian countries in trade, energy, and transport areas were discussed, the importance of the fourth industrial revolution for the region was emphasized at the session. President Ilham Aliyev also met with Chief Executive Officer of SUEZ Group Bertrand Camus, President of Poland Andrzej Duda,  and President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga on January 22.
While sharing her views on the president’s visit to Davos, political scientist Nazakat Mammadova told Kaspi that the Davos Forum is an important global meeting. According to her, the Forum defines the economic roadmap of the world countries. "President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in the Davos Forum is of great importance to our country. President Ilham Aliyev and President of the World Economic Forum Borge Brende have signed a letter of intent as a continuation of the memorandum signed last year. In accordance with the document, an affiliate regional center of the forum will be established in Azerbaijan. Such centers are created in a very limited number of countries, and their main purpose is to fulfill the challenges and opportunities in the fourth industrial revolution. We are among the first countries to sign this important document with the Davos Forum. During the meetings with the Secretary General of OPEC, the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Prime Minister of Croatia, important issues were discussed, including the prospects for cooperation in energy, transport, information and communication technologies, and other areas. With all this in mind, it is worth noting that the Davos meeting is as important as ever,” she said.
Political expert Elkhan Shahinoglu said that, as every year, the Davos Economic Forum has kicked off, leaders of various countries, ministers, political and economic experts, including heads of the world's leading companies have gathered in the Swiss resort town. He said the main topic of discussion in Davos is the economic situation in the world and new projects. "Prior to the Forum, the signing of trade agreements between the US and China brought relief to the world. Because many countries were suffering from the trade war between these two countries. However, Davos is also discussing warnings from a group of economic experts about the next economic crisis awaiting the world. In Davos, views on political processes, regional conflicts and ways to resolve them are also being exchanged, panels are being held on this subject. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif refused to attend Davos, despite being invited. Because the three leading European countries – Great Britain, France, and Germany - are considering sanctions against Iran as the country has begun to enrich uranium,” he said.
According to political analyst Fikret Sadikhov, the Davos Forum is a powerful platform. He noted that many politicians, heads of state, diplomats, public figures and businessmen are taking part in this arena, and urgent economic and political issues are being discussed. "As a result of these discussions, important agreements are signed between the parties. President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Switzerland and his participation in the Davos Forum has already become a tradition. For years, the head of state has been a participant in such an important international forum and conveys the realities of Azerbaijan to the world. The Davos Forum is an important platform for Azerbaijan to convey its position and vision to the world. This time, Davos discussed the strategic future of Eurasia. During the discussions, the President of Azerbaijan drew attention to a number of important issues related to the parliamentary elections in our country, including the objectives of the forthcoming elections, our foreign and domestic policies which meet our national interest, the reforms that are being implemented, and plans and expectations for the future. Such meetings and discussions fully meet the interests of Azerbaijan and increase the influence of our country in the international community,” he said.
