Special traffic lanes for buses are being created

Special traffic lanes for buses are being created
Experts welcome the decision, however, they consider it is important to take all the details into consideration

In order to provide security of citizens who use public transport Baku Transport Agency has started creating special traffic lanes only for movement of buses in the streets and avenues of Baku. Spokesman of Baku Transport Agency, Mais Aghayev told "APA-Economics".
According to M.Aghayev, initially works will be led in 9 streets and avenues: "The work has been started on Fuzuli street. Special traffic lanes are considered for passenger buses. Other vehicles are not allowed to use the lanes. As well as, parking in these lanes are prohibited.”

Department chief of Baku Traffic Police OfficeVagif Asadov said that creation of special traffic lanes is considerably important in terms of provision of security. Thus these lanes will be a solution way of traffic problems. Talking about fines for other vehicles using these lanes, Vagif Asadov told that it will be revealed after solution of requirements due to public transport vehicles.
But does the road infrastructure of Baku is suitable for such lanes? Will it provoke the increase in traffic jams ?
We got views of experts on this issue.
Head of the Social Strategic Studies Ilgar Huseynli said that in some streets the infrastructure allows these lanes to be created. As we know, some works have been done at Heydar Aliyev and Azadlig avenues. These avenues are satisfactory for creation of these lanes. However, it is impossible to create the lanes in all street and avenues. Since those are too narrow for it.

Editor in chief of "” Elmaddin Muradli told our newspaper that the discussions were held on this issue for a long time: " In fact, creation of these lanes can be assessed as a positive step. As a satisfactory condition must be restored for public transport.
According to him, one of main aspects in this issue is regulation of it in legislation and fine issues: " Will drivers who violate the rule be fined whether by inspectors or recorded by the cameras. Or what measures will be taken if buses will move outside lanes? In my opinion, these issues should be solved. There are some streets, determined by the agency that the lanes will not cause traffic jams in these streets. Whereas, if these rules will be imposed in Neftchilar Avenue, then serious problems will be emerged. To tackle traffic jam problem a kind of system must be set up that at certain times of the day other vehicles are allowed to move on these zones.
