However, she noted with regret that on Oct. 7, a group of Russian women illegally visited the occupied territories of Azerbaijan - Nagorno-Karabakh region. The MP said the group also included Svetlana Zhurova, the First Deputy Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the Russian Parliament’s Lower House.
"They call their visit peacekeeping. But the entire world knows that the Armenian separatists launched the Karabakh war. Aren’t they aware of the killing of 106 women and 63 children during the Khojaly genocide? Among the people killed by the Armenian separatists during the Karabakh war, there were not only Azerbaijanis, but also Russians," the Azerbaijani MP noted.
She said Zhurova’s participation in this action can form a negative opinion among the Azerbaijani wider public about the position and role of Russia as a mediator country in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
"Therefore, I urge them to refrain from illegal visits," Huseynova added.
MP Faraj Guliyev also condemned this visit and proposed to adopt an appeal on behalf of the Azerbaijani Parliament to the Russian side.
Head of the Working Group for Azerbaijan-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Relations Ali Huseynli said the Working Group has prepared an appeal to the chairman of the Russian parliament, as well as to its committees.
Huseynli noted that the appeal will be signed both by him and the Chairman of the Russian Community of Azerbaijan Mikhail Zabelin.
"We didn’t intend to comment on this visit, but the participation in the visit of the first deputy chairman of International Relations Committee of the Lower House of Russian Parliament made us do it,” Huseynli added.
