Materials on results of the monitoring conducted by Azerbaijan’s Press Council in January 2016 in certain electronic information resources have been submitted to the General Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.
The investigation conducted by the Prosecutor General’s Office revealed that some electronic media outlets violated the requirements of articles #10 and 11 of the Law "On mass media”.
Regarding the protests organized by different persons in some districts of the country in January 2015 as the deterioration of socio-economic situation in the country and the discontent of the population of the current situation, some media outlets disseminated information without taking into account the official position of the state and openly showed inflammatory position.
In some cases, those reports announced the date of next protests to be held in Baku and other districts of the country, tried to involve the citizens in mass protests, accused several officials in grave crimes and covered slanderous misinformation about various state bodies and their heads.
Thus, heads of Independent Information Agency (Mia.az), Journalist Research Center (JAM.az) and "Qaynar-media” LTD were summoned to the General Prosecutor’s Office. According to article #22 of the law on prosecutor’s office, they were required to stop publishing false, biased and defamatory information, and warned that more strict legal measures will be taken in case that they will further continue to publish such information
