According to MPs, diaspora and non-governmental organizations, state and government agencies, and mass media should be more active

28 years have passed since the Armenians committed the Khojaly tragedy against Azerbaijanis. Different measures have been taken during this period to ensure the recognition of the genocide in the world. Following the political and legal assessment of the Khojaly genocide in 1994, ensuring global recognition of the tragedy was identified as the priority of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. As a result of the work carried out under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, parliaments of many countries, as well as more than 20 US states have recognized the Khojaly genocide.
The contribution of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, is undeniable in conveying the truths about this tragedy and Armenian atrocity. The campaign "Justice for Khojaly", started and continued at the initiative of Vice-President of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, has played an important role in the widespread awareness of the genocide. International events are held by NGOs and diaspora organizations, and media representatives, documentaries and books are also published. The purpose of this is not only to raise awareness of the Khojaly tragedy but also to hold those who committed the massacre accountable. But unfortunately, the Armenians who committed this crime have remained unpunished. So, what steps should be taken to punish the Khojaly perpetrators and to raise more countries’ awareness of the genocide?

"On the night of February 25-26, 1992, the Armenians committed genocide against humanity in Khojaly," political scientist, MP Elman Nasirov told the Kaspi newspaper. "The Armenians killed the Khojaly people due to their ethnicity and religious beliefs. I think that serious work has been done to convey the true essence of Khojaly genocide to the international community. In particular, President Ilham Aliyev has identified the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as the main focus of his policy. In this context, no doubt, the delivery of Khojaly truths is the most important issue. The First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva has carried out a wide range of activities in this direction. In particular, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by her, delivers the truth about Khojaly to the world. I think the "Justice for Khojaly” campaign, launched in 2008 and headed by Leyla Aliyeva, is promoted on almost every continent of the world, and numerous conferences, exhibitions are held and movies are made. These efforts have already yielded serious results. The parliaments of more than 10 countries and over 20 US states have recognized Khojaly events as genocide, and the process continues," he said.
Nasirov believes that the struggle to make the Khojaly genocide known to the world should not stop for one moment. "We should never allow this tragedy to be erased from the memory. In this regard, it is necessary to strengthen ideological work, especially promotional work. The world should know that 28 years ago a crime against humanity was committed and this is a crime of genocide. I believe that a lot of responsibility falls on the diplomatic service of Azerbaijan. Therefore, it needs to strengthen its activities in this area. In general, I think that every Azerbaijani citizen should work within the limits of their power and potential to raise awareness of the Khojaly genocide. But unfortunately, the perpetrators of the Khojaly genocide have not received their overdue punishment. So I think that raising global awareness of the Khojaly genocide is a national issue. Today we can note that not only did great leader Heydar Aliyev save the statehood of Azerbaijan, but also under his leadership, the Khojaly genocide received a legal and political assessment for the first time. Since 1994, very serious work has been done to convey Khojaly truths to the international community. We have the certainty that soon those who committed the Khojaly genocide will get their deserved punishment. Only then will the souls of the martyrs of Khojaly rest in peace,” he added.
MP, historian Musa Gasimli said that the genocide committed by the Armenian state is against humanity due to its methods, purpose, and essence. "Over the past two hundred years, the Azerbaijani side has been able to uncover the truths against the fabricated Armenian propaganda and to subvert Armenian lies on many platforms. The events following President Ilham Aliyev's diplomatic tactics have played an important role in conveying the truth about the Khojaly genocide. The initiatives of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice-President of the Foundation Leyla Aliyeva have played a key role in this work, and the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign has been successful. School textbooks in the OIC countries included information on this genocide and awareness was raised in several countries. I think that our diaspora organizations, NGOs, state and government agencies, as well as mass media should be even more active in this direction,” he noted.
