Vocational education has been declared a priority area in the country to meet the changing demands of the economy and the labor market. Trend reports that, Director of State Vocational Education Agency under the Ministry of Education Famil Mustafayev told at a seminar titled "Activity Grants for Modernization of Vocational Training Centers: "Support program activity Grants for Modernization of Vocational Training Centers in accordance with Public-Private Cooperation in the Vocational Education and Training and the EU's Educational Support Program in Azerbaijan” held with the cooperation of the European Union, the European Training Foundation and State Vocational Education Agency under the Ministry of Education.
According to him, joint cooperation with the Euroepan Union will maintain development of vocational education field. Modern-type vocational education institutions with high level infrastructure and engineer-pedagogical staff involved in Ganja, Barda, Ismayilli, Gakh and Gabala will create the basis for its formation.
He added that establishment of the State Vocational Education Agency under the Ministry of Education, adopton of of "The Strategic Road Map for Vocational Education and Training” reflects a strategic view to this area by 2020, long-term view until 2025 and a target view to this field.
On the other hand, over the past year, the European Union (EU) has conducted surveys in about 300 private companies operating in Azerbaijan. The survey revealed that knowledge and skills provided by vocational education institutions is not in line with the work of private companies, Jeroen Williams, Head of Cooperation Section of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan told this.
According to him, in many cases, the private sector has difficulty finding relevant employee in certain areas: "From this point, there is a need for steady support in reforming vocational education in your country. I should note that, there is no single occupational model in Europe. For the development of this area, along with all countries, the model should be chosen in accordance with the interests of Azerbaijan. Whereas, it is necessary to be sure that the growth of vocational education will be based on co-operation between private and public sector and vocational education institutions. He also added that the EU is always ready to take an interest in the development of vocational education in Azerbaijan. We are aware that a strategic roadmap due to the development of vocational education has been adopted in Azerbaijan. Within the frame of these works, the EU turns to cooperation between employers and vocational education institutions,”added Williams.
