Azerbaijan Medical University’s press service told APA that on October 14, 2015, the woman in her 26th week of pregnancy appealed to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University’s Training and Surgical Clinic to terminate her pregnancy. During the ultrasound examination, developing large cyst was found in the left kidney of fetus. Cyst gradually occupied entire abdominal cavity. Kidney of a baby was operated while still in the womb and bladder was operated afterbirth.
Assistant Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Shola Ismayilova performed cesarean operation in the 40th week of pregnancy and baby was born save. No complication was observed during the surgery, but as the cyst in the left kidney of fetus reached a large size in the 26th week of pregnancy, belly button didn't completely heal. Despite fetal surgery, urine was still flowing from the bladder through the navel. As the risk of infection is very high in such babies, it was decided to perform an emergency surgery. The embryonic hernia was removed, fistula between the bellybutton and bladder was separated and stitched. The surgery ended successfully.
