Young poet Ferid Huseyn participates at the 54th Belgrade International Meetings of Writers (19 -23 September), an important literary festival which was once attended by Nobel Laureates such as Joseph Brodsky, Ivo Andrić, Czesław Miłosz and other famous authors. This year’s event will have a busy schedule with poets and writers coming from countries such as the USA, Greece, France, Germany, Romania, Italy, Czech Republic and other countries. As such, meetings around the important topics including publishing, polygraphy, poetry, copyrights, promotion, literary integration, the possibilities of artistic expression in the age of speed, book presentations and poetry nights will be held as part of the event.
This year’s event will mark the 125th anniversary of Charles Baudelaire’s death, 100th anniversary of Vladislav Petković’s death, 25th anniversary of Borislav Pekić’s death, 125th and the 250th birth anniversaries of Nobel Laureate Ivo Andrić and Filip Višnjić, respectively.
Ferid Huseyn’s biography and poems were published in the collection of the event. His poems were also included in the anthology that had been planned to be published since last year.
Panel meetings and lectures will be held as part of the literary festival that has a very diverse line-up. The lectures and essays around topics that were suggested to the participants before the event have already been completed. Huseyn will give a brief lecture on the topic – "How does poetry change us?”.
In the third day of the event, poets will be divided into groups and sent to visit thirteen Serbian cities for two days.
Ferid Huseyn met with Radomir Andrić, the president of the Association of Writers of Serbia, on September 18. The young poet donated the copies of Literature edition of "Kaspi” newspaper dedicated to the Serbian literature to the library of the Association of Writers of Serbia. Andrić, a prominent Serbian author, said during the meeting: "I express my gratitude to you for the attention you’ve given to the Serbian literature, especially poetry, and to "Kaspi” newspaper where these works were published. We view these editions as priceless gifts. I noticed that you were very careful in your selection of literature of our country and you have translated valuable pieces of Serbian literature into your own language. The literature of both countries can only win with such a selection. We are very happy when our prominent and valuable poets are translated into other world languages. The literary relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia is as strong as our political ties”.
The same day, Huseyn had a meeting with famed author Milorad Pavić’s wife – Jasmina Mihajlović. Mihajlović’s interviews and other materials belonging to Pavić that were published in the "Kaspi” and its Russia edition - "Kacпий” newspapers were donated to the author’s archive during the meeting. Mihajlovic said at the time: "The pieces about me and Pavić published in the digital version of ‘Kaspi’ were also shared in Pavić’s personal website. This place is home to millions of Pavić fans worldwide. I read your interview with me and was very pleased. In that conversation, I talked about issues that I had never considered before. I came up with the answers to your thoughful questions during the interview. That’s how life is: We only find answers when we are faced with questions. This is both undesirable and also a good thing at the same time. Our conversation reached many more people as the interview and pieces were first published in Azerbaijani language and then in Russian in the ‘Kacпий’ newspaper”.
We should note that, Ferid Huseyn was able to attend this prestigious event with the assistance and presentation of Artistic Translation and Literary Relations Center.
