Baku hosts 22nd session of Conference of Special Service Bodies of Turkic-speaking States
The 22nd session of the Conference of Special Service Bodies of Turkic-speaking States has today been held in Baku.
The event brought together Chief of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Ali Naghiyev, Chief of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Orkhan Sultanov, Head of Turkey's National Intelligence Organization Hakan Fidan, Chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov and Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan Orozbek Opumbayev. Chairman of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan Abdusalom Azizov and the high-level official of the State Security Service of Georgia also joined the session as observers.
Prior to the meeting, the event participants visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of national leader, founder and architect of modern Azerbaijani state Heydar Aliyev.
They also put flowers at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
The event participants then visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country's independence and territorial integrity, and laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument.
They also laid flowers at a monument to Turkish soldiers in the Alley of Martyrs.
Opening the event, Chief of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Ali Naghiyev wished the session success.
Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for work with law enforcement bodies and military issues, head of department Fuad Alasgarov read out a congratulatory letter of President Ilham Aliyev to the event participants.
Ali Naghiyev hailed partnership relations between security and special service bodies of Turkic-speaking states and stressed the importance of expanding the exchange of experience and information in terms of ensuring the national security of the countries.
Lieutenant General Ali Naghiyev expressed hope that the establishment of the Permanent Secretariat of the Conference of Special Service Bodies of Turkic-speaking States in Ankara would have a positive impact on joint activities in the areas of cooperation.
Addressing the event, Chief of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Orkhan Sultanov highlighted the threats that international terrorism posed to the national interests of the countries. In this regard, Lieutenant General Orkhan Sultanov noted the significance of strengthening cooperation among special service bodies of Turkic-speaking states even further.
Other speakers at the event included Head of Turkey's National Intelligence Organization Hakan Fidan, Chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan Orozbek Opumbayev, Chairman of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan Abdusalom Azizov and head of Counterterrorism Center of the State Security Service of Georgia Irakli Chimakadze.
The event ended with the signing of relevant documents on the establishment of the Permanent Secretariat of the Conference of Special Service Bodies of Turkic-speaking States in Ankara and the results of the 22nd Baku session.
They decided to hold the next session of the conference in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2020.
