"Yalli (Kochari, Tanzara), the traditional group dances of Nakhchivan, are included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding', the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs amde joint statements. The document states that Yalli (Kochari, Tanzara), traditional group dances of Nakhchivan, were included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding by the decision approved at the 13th Session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Port Luis, the capital of the Republic of Mauritius on November 26-December 1.
The indicated nomination document was presented jointly by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairsand the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO.
With the support of the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the President of the Heydar AliyevFoundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, who has an exceptional role in the development of cooperation with UNESCO and the promotion of cultural heritage and worldwide promotion, Yalli (Kochari, Tanzara), traditional group dances of Nakhchivan, as well as the art of crafting and playing with kamancha, dolma making and sharing tradition, mugham art in Azerbaijan, lavash cooking and sharing tradition, Lahij copper, ashug art, Novruz holiday, carpet weaving art, tar- performing, kalaghayi were included in UNESCO’s Non-Material Cultural Heritage List, along with Chovqan, a traditional Karabakh horse-riding game, which was was included into the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List," the statement reads.
People's Artist of Azerbaijan, Vice Rector for International Affairs of Baku Choreography Academy Tarana Muradova said that it is very gratifying news: "We welcomed the news that Yalli (Kochari, Tanzara), the traditional group dances of Nakhchivan, were included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding'. As, we teach our national dances to young people at Baku Choreography Academy. Every student studying at our academy is deeply aware of our national dances. This is a very important factor. Not only Azerbaijani Yalli, but other national dances are considered cultural heritage of our grandfathers. Protecting this heritage and pass on to future generations is up to us." she noted.
People’s Artist added that there are more than 100 types of Yalli in Nakhchivan and all of them are interesting and have their own historyI "Furthermore, in other regions of Azerbaijan as Karabakh, Lankaran there are numerous Yalli types as well. Azerbaijani intellectuals Kamal Hasanov, Gamar Almaszadeh wrote precious books which become our pocket books, as they are a valuable source for youth to develop themselves in this field. Our young people read those books, get acquainted with the history of our national dances." People's Artist said.
